Battery, starter and alternator work

A car that will not start in Frederick is usually the battery, sometimes the starter, and occasionally an alternator that has been slowly killing the battery for a month.

  • The whole charging system gets tested, not only the battery
  • Most replacements finish in under an hour where the car sits
  • Cold mornings here kill a battery that tested fine at noon
  • 12 month warranty on a battery replacement

A battery does not fail gradually in this climate. It works on a warm afternoon and then does nothing at all at six the next morning, because the cold cuts the power it can deliver while the engine needs more to turn over.

That is why Joe tests the charging side before selling anyone a battery. A weak alternator will flatten a brand new battery inside a month, and the second battery is the one that makes people angry.

A no start that clicks once and stops is usually the starter. A no start with dim lights and nothing at all is usually the battery. A car that dies while driving is the alternator. Joe can tell which one over the phone most of the time.

All three jobs are driveway work. Bring the car nowhere. Send a text with the address and what it does when you turn the key.

Questions people ask

Can you come out tonight
Yes. This is a 24 hour business and a dead car at 2am is the most common reason to call it.
Will you take the old battery
Yes. It goes back for recycling at no charge to you.
My car starts with a jump, is that the battery
Not always. If it dies again after a drive, the alternator is the more likely answer. Joe tests both.
