Joe comes to the car

Joe-lopy's is one mechanic with a van, working out of Frederick since well before the Carbon Valley filled up. He drives to your house, your work or the shoulder you are stuck on, tells you the price first, and warranties what he does for 12 months.

What you are actually buying

One person, start to finish

One person, start to finish

The man who answers the phone is the man who fixes the car. Nothing gets passed to a service writer and lost.

The price comes first

You hear what it costs before anything is taken apart. If the job changes, you hear that too, before it changes.

12 months of warranty

Every service carries 12 months. Brake pad replacement carries 18. That has been the deal since the beginning.

Any hour, genuinely

24 hours, seven days. A dead car at 2am is a normal call here, not an emergency surcharge story.

Open 24 hours

Tell Joe what the car is doing

Send a text with the problem, where the car is parked and a photo if you have one. You get the price before anybody opens anything up.

Local conditions

Why cars break the way they do here

A car in Frederick does not wear out the way the same car wears out somewhere flat and warm. Four things here do most of the damage.

Mag chloride

Colorado sprays magnesium chloride brine on I 25 and the county roads instead of rock salt. It clings to the underside of a car long after the road is dry, and it eats brake lines, fuel lines and wiring connectors from the outside in.

Five thousand feet

Frederick sits near 5,000 feet. Thin air means the cooling system, the radiator fan and any turbo work harder than the same parts do at sea level. Marginal cooling fails here first.

Sixty degree days

The Front Range can swing sixty degrees between sunrise and dinner. Batteries that read fine in the afternoon will not turn the engine over the next morning, and tire pressure lights come on for no other reason.

Hail

This is hail country. Hail does more than dent a roof. It cracks washer nozzles, splits wiper blades and pits a windshield until it fails in the first cold snap.

The process

How a job goes

Step 01

You text him

Send what the car is doing, where it is and a photo if you have one. A photo answers half the questions before he replies.

Step 02

He tells you the price

Before anything is opened up. Parts and labor, in plain words, so you can say yes or no.

Step 03

He drives out

To your house, your office car park or the shoulder. Same day for most things, any hour for the ones that cannot wait.

Step 04

You get 12 months

The work is warrantied. If it goes wrong, the same person comes back out to it.

Great experience with Joe replacing brakes and rotors. He was able to give me a quote over the phone and stuck to it. Showed up on time and was able to fit himself into my schedule.
